A notice to all Mill Farm gym members:


Dear members


We write to allay any fears with regard to gym memberships/payments while we are closed due to coronavirus. Please rest assured that Clubwise (the umbrella company managing your payments) was asked to freeze all member payments when the Government announced shutdown. Clubwise have now confirmed that this has been done. This therefore means that no further payments will be taken from your account unless your payment was due within 5 working days of the freeze request. In this case the payment will already be in the banking system. Should a payment have been taken within the five day window we will of course credit you upon your return.


What this means:


However many weeks/months you had remaining on your membership at the point of membership freeze will be re-started once the government deems it safe for us to reopen. When this occurs we will email to advise of the opening date for memberships to resume. Upon reopening, you are able to request a further freeze term to your membership should you wish, or as always you may then request full cancellation under the standard 1 month notice period. Please note we will not be handling cancellations to membership until the gym offices reopen.
We appreciate this is a very worrying and anxious time for everyone. Please rest assured we are still here to answer any of your questions via email. The main phone line to the gym is not being manned due to the closure of our gym admin department, however you may respond to this email address should you wish to get in touch. We will do our best to get back to you within 24 hours.


How can we keep fit while in isolation?


This may seem a strange question! We are aware government guidelines currently state we can go outside for a walk/run once a day, alone or with family we are living with. However, our amazing instructor Debbie Johnson has set up virtual classes via Zoom! Please go to Pilates in Bridgwater or The Mill Health & Fitness Suite facebook page. Both will provide links to the online classes which you can take part in interactively from the safety of your own homes! Debbie and I were concerned for our members health, both mentally and physically while we face the challenges of isolation and it took Debbie just moments before she was tapping away organising an online portal for you to all stay connected virtually. So far you can take part in Legs Bums & Tums or Pilates. Don’t be shy, give it a try! We’d love to see you there!! I will be joining in….with a 4 year old little boy and little mini dachshund in tow!

For those of you who are mentally stressed there are numerous apps to help relieve tension and anxiety. A free app (at the time of writing this) which you can download from The App Store is Smiling Mind. This provides a great range of thoughtful relaxation techniques that really work. Whether listening to them in the garden, during the day or in the middle of the night, these techniques can really help to give a little solace, calm the mind and provide a little platform of stress relief for those who are struggling.

VITAMINS!


A little Vitamin D tip! At times like this it’s wise to up your vitamin D intake. Vitamin D is made when the sun’s UVB rays land on the cholesterol cells in the skin. For vitamin D to be absorbed into the body it helps to be at the right angle when it lands on the skin. The best time for Vitamin D absorption is when your shadow is at it’s shortest point in the day (when the sun is at it’s highest point in the sky). This is usually around midday. When the sun lands on the skin at this angle you are absorbing Vitamin D. About 13 minutes in the sunshine 3 times a week at midday during summer months is all you need. Please remember however, don’t stay out long enough to burn or you will undo the benefits. We have some beautiful sunshine at the moment so if you have the luxury of a garden, make the most of it at the right time!

Finally Vitamin C, Zinc & Selenium are also essential. Get vitamin C wherever you can. Foods to eat include broccoli, cantaloupe, cauliflower, kale, kiwi, oranges, papaya, red green or yellow pepper, sweet potato, strawberries & tomatoes.  Never underestimate the power of vitamin C!

Most importantly, please please listen to the advice from the government. Remember, the fastest way back to normality is to follow the steps being asked of us. It is time to stay home and protect not just ourselves, but others who are heavily relying on our actions too.
